I have Tourette's and a learinging disability concerning mathematics, and am trying to find grants and or scholarships for people with TS/ LD students. I am interested in taking a Fine visual arts w/ photography course at my local community college, i still need to get all the paper work for that but thought it would be helpful to get a jump start on funds seeing as i don't have much of my own. The only scholarship program i could find so far for people like me is for residents of New Jersey, which i am not a resident of. If anyone has information that couls be usefull i would appreciate it.

Thanks.

When applying for FAFSA - remember this is a goverment program, therefore, the website is  (.gov) NOT (.com)

FAFSA does NOT charge a fee for applying - EVER!

That would depend on what your son's needs are. For example, if he were to attend college, then he would apply for FAFSA...

This is a VERY confusing issue. Your best bet would be to talk to the financial aid office at the school they want to attend.

You can claim a full time student up to age 23 ( as long as they are attending school full time)and get the EIC credit. SAVE those receipts from your college purchases for taxes!

However, when applying for FAFSA, they do look at your income. FAFSA is based solely on income, family make-up, and expenses.

Scholarships and grants are another matter. Depending on the guidelines, they can be based on any different qualification: income, race, gender, religion, course of study, athletics, parent's job ( fireman, policeman, civil service/govt worker, etc), disability, etc.... Some schools set aside funds strictly for students who lack the income to attend.

Plus there is always a work study program which can help defray some costs and help the student earn extra cash as well.

Agai, check with student services and the financial aid office of the college your child plans to attend for the best possible advice.

I can't believe that you honestly think of yourself this way.  I do a lot of grant research as a living and hopefully you have either read the newspapers or heard on the news about the many so-called politicians that have been involved in some sort of grant-related crime.

There is a vey big need for medical professionals and I really think that you should start looking at the financial aid office of the school that you want to attend.  They would best know of any grants and/or scholarship programs that you might be eligible to apply for.

I am a single 24 year old woman. I guess I have done things the wrong way and am waiting till I get married to have childern. I am trying to go back to school to work in the medical field but because I am American, White, Single, No Kids I can't get the funding I need. I work, pay taxes and am being penalized for doing things the right way. I understand that if I didn't work, or had a couple kids I could get a free ride and have the state pay for my kids by people like me who pay taxed and work for a living. I think I should go have random intercourse with someone and oops get pregnant and be able to get a free ride in life. You are welcome to all the single people with kids who don't work because you have kids, alot of people have kids and still work, but that I could help support you and yours by working and paying taxes. You are being rewarded for making bad decisions, not that the kid is a mistake in anyway, but you  the parent are to blame. I now get stuck in a regular job, not being able to go to school cause my parents weren't rich,  work for the government and because I don't have kids and don't work. Tell me how that is any way fair?

Single Mothers

"I am a single disabled mother living in a small town. I have just returned to college here and plan to graduate in spring of 08 and transfer to the University of Bakersfield. Are there any scholarships that I could apply for and is there something that would help me catch up on my heating bill and get me a good computer? My email address is k~@c~.com. Just in case you needed to know my major is social science. Thank you." K~

Thank you for your email. I will address your first question. Time and time again I have noted on both pages about grants and grant-related information about the availability of grants/scholarships and funding for those that are disabled, single working mothers and or those wanting to continue their education. The answer to your question is "Yes" there are scholarships and funding that you can apply for. As a matter of fact the number of funding programs that you are eligible to apply for increases because of your disability and the major that you have chosen. I know for a fact that there is an organization devoted to helping single mothers and will even help in them paying back their student loan. I found out about this organization when I was finding grant programs for a client who is also a single mother. And this is just one of many programs. You have to understand that these funding programs (including the scholarship programs) were put in place to help fill a need. In your specific case the fact that you want to continue your education in the field that you mentioned above is one of the reasons why there are scholarship programs at all.

I guess you read all the news about the grants / scholarships and other programs that the President has set aside for those who want to go back to school?

Number one there are some colleges that will pay your FULL tuition!  As sad as it is to say there are some predominently black colleges that will pay the FULL tuition of white students who apply.

Secondly you should check with financial aid office of the school that you want to go to to find out what programs can help you with paying your way through school.

I have mentioned it before but my very first client was a single mother who was looking for grant and funding programs to help pay her way through school.  Plus she wanted to start her own daycare business when she graduated from school.  I was able to find her 4 grant programs that she was eligible to apply for - so that should just go to tell you that there are such kinds of grant programs out there. Here is an excerpt from one of my pages about grant programs

My last completed project was for a client that is a single mother and I managed to find 4 funding programs for her.

  • The first grant funding program was for those who are minorities and want to start their own business. Previously the grant award was $20,000,00 but it has since been raised to over $45,000.00!

  • The 2nd was a funding program to help single mothers who are still pursuing their education. Not only does this organization provide financial help they also help with paying off a single mother's student loan(s)!

  • The 3rd was another organization (and not a government grant program) that is specifically targeted towards women

  • And the 4th was another source of student scholarship monies!

There are also programs out there that will help a single mother pay back some or all of her student loans!  There are also other programs out there that will pay off all or part of your student loans depending upon the kind of work that you choose to do.  A lot of these program are for teachers.

I would also suggest that you look for more grant programs simply because with grant programs you will not have to pay the money back and your credit rating will have no bearing on you applying.

Another thing too - the more loans you get the more money you will have to pay back - so that is why I suggest you look more into grants and scholarships -because there are just too many of them out there!

Hi,

I'm a 5th semester vet student at a caribbean school.  Our private loan company has recently dropped our school due to the economy.  I can't get gov't loans because my school is not title IV certified.  I am taking an additional class online from a US school to get some gov't loans but it is not enough to cover living expenses and tuition for vet school.  An additional loan is available through wells fargo but I can't get it because I don't have a cosigner.  I am from a single parent home and my mom is a senior citizen currently going through lchemo for lymphoma, so she can't help me at all.   Does anyone know of any options?  All these politicians say there is all this unused money, how do I find it?!! I really don't want to drop out of school. I have applied to transfer to a U.S. school but they aren't taking anyone right now, as they only do if someone fails out.  Please, if anyone knows anything, it would be appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hello there, I would first check out trade schools in your area that offer classes for LVNs, their financial aid office can help you with the Grants, Scolarships and loans, it usually will take you 18 months to complete an LVN program.

Once you have completed this you can start working, I would go and get a job at a hospital as most of them have education programs where they will pay for you to continue your education so you can proceed to

a RN program.I will tell you to take a lot more math classes as the entrance exam for a good RN school is not easy and has a lot of math (Algebra) involved but you can do it.

I'm in need for additional money for my tuition to further my Bachelors in an Entertainment Business Degree. Does anyone know where I can go to find additional funds? How can I get those additional funds?

I also need help to get my transportation going again so I can get around for my studies.

I am currently receiving financial aid through fafsa but it does not cover all of my tuition cost nor additional costs needed.

If anyone has an answer for me or can help out please contact me at:Tiarati@yahoo.com

Thanks!

I guess this is where I would ask about grants, right? Ok - I am half indian american (1/4 charokee, 1/4 blackfoot). I was told I can get a check from the government each month because of this fact, and also I can get property, and a college grant also. How much truth is there to this, and where would I look into it?

in response to jmiller0921...   There are so many grant and scholarship programs for nursing students out there that it isn't even funny! There are especially some grant programs for single mothers who want to study nursing. Just visit my Grant Basics 101 Blog to take a look at some of the grant programs that are available!

My son just found out today that the $5,000.00 football scholarship that he was promised when he signed to play football with Bemidji State University is not going to happen.  it seems that the coaches do this very frequently at BSU--promise $ to get you to sign and then "sorry, we just don't have enough to go around".  This is heartbreaking for my son since he now will not be able to continue with college and it is the end of his football dream.  i have to try to find a way to find some kind of financial help for him.  I am going to try to find a part-time job in addition to my current fulltime job to help him as much as I possibly can.  Any suggestions anyone?

I was laid off my job in Nov, 2008 and I've decided to go back to school. I've been going to school at a community college and for software development. I have a 3.88 gpa cumilative. I want to get a bachelors in computer engineering at a school in the dayton, oh area, but I can't afford to pay bills and take out massive student loans to do it. I was wondering is there a way to get some scholarship money to do my computer engineering bachelors. I'm trying my best to succeed, but it seems like the only barriers I have are monitary. Anybody have any sugestions?
